Over the years, we've found that couples who enjoy the planning process most aren't necessarily the ones with the longest engagements. They're the ones who give themselves enough room to enjoy each milestone without feeling like they're racing the calendar.
Whether you're planning a celebration next year or dreaming a little further ahead, here's a realistic look at when to book each part of your wedding.
Start With Your Season
Before you settle on a specific date, spend a little time thinking about the experience you want to create.

October continues to be one of the most requested months across Rochester and the Finger Lakes, while winter weddings often offer more flexibility for both venues and vendors.
Choosing the season first gives you a much better starting point than trying to build your entire wedding around one Saturday on the calendar.
12 to 18 Months Before Your Wedding
This is where the biggest decisions happen.
Now is the time to establish your budget, create a rough guest list, and begin touring venues.

If you're hoping for a Saturday wedding during peak season, especially in September or October, we'd encourage you to start touring venues as early as possible. Those weekends tend to book first throughout Upstate New York.
This is also a wonderful time to simply enjoy being engaged. Tour a few venues, ask plenty of questions, and trust yourself when you find a place that feels right.
With your venue secured, the rest of your vendor team can begin coming together.
This is typically when couples book their photographer, entertainment, florist, and reserve hotel accommodations for out-of-town guests.
Rather than feeling like you're checking items off a long list, this part of planning often becomes one of the most exciting.
You're beginning to see your vision take shape.

9 to 12 Months Before
